March 26, 2009 Exergame Creation

1) Describe the game you created - the name, objective and characters in the game. What is the point in playing and how is the player going to play this game?

2) Why would you consider this an exergame? Explain in detail? If you don't consider it an exergame, tell me why.

3) Tell me about your experiences using scratch to create this game. What are some of the things you learned and how did you learn them. What were some of the problems you encountered and how did you solve them?

1)the game we made is the mole game we called it digging deep because you have to dig in the ground for your friend.the objective of the game is to dig under the ground to
rescue your friend from your neighbor fence, your has but your friend in a cage and you have to rescue him and he has gone crazy.the character are two moles they don't have names one of them is going to rescue is crazed friend.the point of the game is to rescue your crazy friend by digging and trying to get the paper clip.the player is going to play with a dance pad.
2)this game is an exergame because you use the dance pad to move your character and that is exercise.
3)my experience with scratch was fun to do and i learned how to broadcast and to make pages and digging.the problem was to get him to come down like falling not flying. we fixed that by making him a longer stick to come down with so you fall on the finish line.yes we had proplems but we solved them.

1. the game we created is de destruction and your in a tractor trying to doge the monkeys across the street. If you touch a monkey you lose 25 points. if you get a building you gain 75 points

2. Well you have to use the wheels to back and forward. without the wheels you will only be going in circles.

3. I learned aloy doing scratch and at fist i had no idea what was going on. I learned on how to make a game with all the different control's. We had all different types of problem like monkey wouldnt take away points. Then you wouldnt gain points and not lose or win.we double checked the scripts and saw what was going on and so we fixed it.

1. The game we created is called Valve Wars, and there is only one character- yourself! Your neighbor hooked your water pipes up so that he gets your water and his water (So you are actually paying for his water and your water!) You decide to give him a taste of his own medicine! The player is going to play by rotating the valves. You use the Bottom right button on the dance pad to rotate the blue valve, and the bottom left to rotate the red valve. you press 1 to see if you are correct.

2. I would consider this to be a very minor exergame, because you are moving your leg very quickly in a short amount of time, to rotate the valves. But it's only for a short time and only one leg. Yes, you're moving but not that much, but I would still count it as an exergame.

3. I learned a lot about how graphics are very important to the game, and that they are really not easy to create. I did the graphics for my group, and it was hard to get ideas on how to do the graphics, because I was using PhotoShop for the graphics. I learned how to use a computer pen pad for graphics. I am hoping to get a pad like that for the graphics I do for my website. Professional graphics artists use those and it was a great experience using one. But I was also looking at the programming for the game we created and wow! That's so complicated and so much! Big and complicated games like this take a lot of programming to do! Some of the problems we encountered was the WINNER screen and LOSER screen. We had to find new ways to make those screens pop up when we wanted them too. Even when we were finished, we still didn't make them the way we wanted too, but we just didn't know how. Another problem we encountered was the water popping up at the right time also, and that took even more time to program the correct way. Overall the experience with Scratch was fun, and even more fun to use PhotoShop for the graphics! Our project is not 100 percent perfect but I learned a lot from doing it.

1)The name of my game is Valve Wars. The point and objective of the game is to steal your neighbor's water. You are the character in this game. You are taking his water for revenge. You will use the bottom right, bottom left, and top right portions of the dance pad to rotate the blue valve, red valve, and checking your solutions, respectively.
2)My game is an exergame because you have very little time to do what is needed. You have only fifteen seconds.
3)As always, the process was very nervewracking and I thought I was gonna go crazy. I already knew the programming but Logan taught me how to use the timer as an end game marker. The main problem was that our win and lose screens kept getting confused. We solved this by using the timer to end the game.

1. The game we created was "Spike Sneak", which featured a crab named Zetta. The objective was to reach the door on the top floor by climbing the ropes and avoiding spike balls. We chose the dance pad, and we use the right and left arrows to move, up arrow to jump, and down arrow to start the game.

2. I consider this an exergame, because it requires a lot of leg movement in order to reach the goal.

3. I use scratch a lot, therefore I am familiar with it. I find it easier to make a game now, though. We found a glitch where you could fly over objects, but we fixed it by adding a 'wait' block after the jump.

1.The game that we created was Digging Deep it is about a mole that has to go into the neighbors yard and save his friend because he has been caged and gone crazy(he chewed off his own ear.) The way you get him out of the cage is using the paperclip that you find underground. The main point of this game is to exercise while having fun and playing a video game. It is a race against the clock because you only have 45 seconds to get your friend and leave the yard. The controller is a DDR dance pad. You will be using the directional buttons on the pad to move your character.

2.I would say this is an exergame in a way because you have to step in different directions and that can be a work out if you are moving fast enough. The ways that this game is not an exergame is because you can cheat by holding down the buttons to move at a constant speed instead of repeatedly pressing the button so you don't end up getting a workout.

3. I think that using Scratch to create a game is hard because you have to try to get every little detail perfect and if you mess one thing up in the programing then the whole way the game works is thrown off and you cannot play the game. Some of the things that I learned by using Scratch are how to set a timer to go off when you get it to a certain number and also that your games are going t have glitches in them. Some of the problems that we encountered in making the game were getting the mole to get back to the other side of the gate by climbing a skate board then climbing across a branch, but the problem was when we would get onto the branch we would fall through the ground. We fixed it by making it so when the mole touches the color brown(the branch)it will change Y by .5 and when it touches blue it will change Y by -.5.

The name of our game is called Digging Deep. The objective of our game is to save your friend from a cage because he was being a bother. so you have to save him from a cage. The way its going to get some one moving is because you have to move on the dance pad. Yes because you have to move on a dance pad. The trouble we had was making arrangements to the scripts. another problem that was bad was the game because there were a lot of changes and glitches we had to fix. We fixed our problems by changing, arranging, and deleting scripts.

1crab ninja spikes you avoid the spike balls and get to the door as vetta and the spikes go fast on the top the ball is hard to avoid

2 you play as left right up and down and you have to play fast to win and the more you play it the less hard it seems to get

3 fun hard fast crabby frustrating and weird but all over all is super fun and a fun exsperenc to make are first trouble was the crab was flying then the top ball was to close the way fixed it was made the roof higher and added a no flying thing i was not their at the time so i did not see it

The name of our game is De Destruction. The objective of the game is to score 200 points by knocking down old buildings, but you cant hit the monkeys or else you get 25 points deducted. The point is to try and win and the player will use the bike and the controller. The bike will make you go back and forth and the controller will let you go left and right. Its an exergame because you are constantly peddling back and forth and that gets your heart rate up. You can also make it harder to peddle and you get more of a workout. Using scratch was pretty hard all the way through because we were constantly having to use different things to make things work differently. One of the problems was when we couldn't get the point system so work. We solved that by playing around with the variable option. Another problem was when we couldent get the buildings to work right. We solved that by changing them to different costumes and it worked.

1. the game that we created was about a tractor who has to destroy buildings. The characters are an orange tractor and wild monkeys. the point to play it is to knock all the buildings down and avoid all the monkeys.

2. the reason it is consider an exergame is because you have to pedal to make the tractor moveand the faster you pedal the more you exercise and use the controller to steer.

3.One of the experiences we experienced was trying to get the monkeys to move and deduct points. the thing that i learned was how to broadcast an item, and how to get the background to change.

1. The name of the game we created is called Spike Sneak. The objective of the game is to get to the door on the third level of the castle. You are a crab with the skills of a ninja. You must avoid Spike Balls that move around and try to make you fail.

2. This game is an exergame because you must move your feet in order to move the crab with every step. You also have to have quick reflekses to avoid the spike balls.

3. Using Scratch was all the same because I used simple controls that I already knew, but i did learn more on what you can do with the Brodcast controll. We had to change a lot like the background, the crab, and the spike balls.
